Chinese New Year - 元宵

On the 15th day of the Lunar New Year, aka 元宵, my school held a Curriculum Tea session with the parents of K1 students. The idea was to share what Pat's Schoolhouse had in store for K1 and a bit of K2, to present us ready for Primary education in future. Quite a good turnout that day, with most parents attending the session.

Ms Nicole shared what the English syllabus would be like ... total 4 themes that we are going to learn this year, over 4 semesters. First semester was on solar system, and indeed, that was where I learnt all about the 9 planets, the Sun and the Moon.

Ms Jacqueline used orea biscuits to teach us about the different phases of the moon. So Ms Nicole gave each parent an orea biscuit to make different phases of the moon (testing the parents if they know what a gibbous and new moon is)

Then Ms Nicole moved on to demonstrate the complexity of English language ... the 5 sounds of the letter "a" .... Daddy and Mummy did not know that

Then Ms Nicole shared with the parents on what they will be teaching in Maths lessons

And in fact, she prepared some hands-on activities for the parents so try out ... these activities are what the teachers teach us in school ... the key concept in Pat's Schoolhouse is to have the kids explore by themselves to reinforce learning.

And of course, Chinese lessons !!! In fact, starting from Semester 2 onwards, we will start our 1-to-1 English and Chinese reading sessions with the teachers at 830am before class officially starts

And at the end of the Curriculum Tea session, there came the item that the parents were eagerly waiting for ... our turn to perform a CNY dance for all our parents !!! Daddy and Mummy were so proud of me .... their little princess who went into Pat's Schoolhouse at the age of 14 months, can now do a great Chinese dance perfectly !!! And can even give commands for the class to 拜年 !!!

This was then followed by the K2 performance. They had to perform 4 times in total for all the curriculum tea sessions for all levels !!! Haha

After all the performance, the school prepared some dough for the parents and children to make our own 汤圆 .... since that day was 元宵

Waiting for the syrup to boil so that we can cook our 汤圆 that we have made

And 年糕 as well !! In fact, the cooking auntie did the 年糕 by 3 different methods .... the traditional 煎年糕 with eggs coated on the outside, a popiah type 年糕 and 年糕 cubes with coconut flakes coated on the outside. Guess most of the people loved the traditional style since that was the plate that went empty the first

In the evening, we went to 爷爷 and 奶奶 place for dinner. And I was so excited to tell them about my CNY dance ... so Daddy went to download the video from Mummy's handphone to 姑姑 laptop. Then we used 爷爷 42" LED TV to watch my performance !!! Super big screen ... and I got so excited again that I did my dance "live" !!
