Outing to Science Centre

Since Tues is a Vesak Day, Daddy and Mummy decided to bring me to the Science Centre again. I have been learning quite a lot of interesting knowledge from school about scienc (eg. water cycle, planet / solar system) so it would be more interesting to me compared to the Jun 2009 trip

Had breakfast and this time, 姑姑 joined us for the trip (since it has been donkey years that she has been to the Science Centre). First exhibit that we saw. I stood at this structure ...

And when I looked up the screen, I was trapped inside the rectangular structure !!!!

And who is this beautiful princess with yellow hair ???

We went to quite a lot of exhibits, before we proceeded to the Sound Hall, where there was going to be a performance on how sounds are made. Since we were 10 mins early, we took some photos

And we had Professor Claire and her assistant to demonstrate to us how sounds are made. We were told to close our eyes and guess what the sounds were .... and it turned out to be sounds of rain and thunder !!! And the assistant showed us how sounds can be amplified using a large surface area

And to emphasize the idea of sound amplification, Professor Claire took 2 musical springs. And it was quite a good demonstration on how large surface area can help to amplify sounds. Especially having a hole to direct all the sound energy to a single direction, just like the case of guitar, clarinet, trumpets, horn and all other musical instruments

Then we move on to Chipmunks !!! Supposed to demonstrate different pitches of sounds, like high vibration will give high pitch and vice versa. And they used a balloon filled with helium to demonstrate that. Since helium is a lighter gas than air, it vibrates faster and when the assistant swallowed helium, she spoke like a chipmunk !!! That made everyone laughed like crazy

And the last demonstration was to see sound waves in action ... using a Ruben Tube and fire !!!

After the intersting sound performance, we moved on to other exhibition halls, before we went to the next performance at the Tesla Ring. And see the Faraday Cage, which can block out external static electric fields !!!

I watched the performance for a while, but got frightened due to the electric sparks flying around, so I left with Mummy, leaving Daddy and 姑姑 to finish watching the show.

And to prove that the Faraday Cage works, they had a volunteer to sit inside the cage. He had to provide his name and sign on a sheet of paper, making it look so scary !!! Haha

And see, the gor-gor was OK !!! If only Daddy's plant has Faraday Cage built for all the manhole watch outside, then Daddy would not have to climb all the way up 50 m height, and when lightning came, he had to climb all the way down 50 m back to ground !!!

And finally, 2 balloons filled with a light gas. We were supposed to guess whether the gas was helium or hydrogen. And when the balloons exploded in flames, the answer was revealed !!! Unfortunately, Daddy could not capture the moment when the balloons went into flame

And to conclude the trip, I went to have some fun at the Waterplay

Ready to go off, but insisted on taking a photo in front of the big shark

Went to 爷爷 and 奶奶 house for my afternoon nap, since I woke up before 7 am that day !!!
